Some yummy extra mix-ins are peanut butter, berries, chocolate chips and raisins. Also, you don”t have to use chocolate protein powder- go for whatever flavour you like best. It”s just that for me, the best flavour is ALWAYS chocolate…

Anyway, if you”ve got the ingredients on hand, why not bite the bullet and try this out for dessert tonight! Trust me, it”s really yummy.

I do that, but use cocoa instead of hot chocolate mix. I add peanut butter and kashi go leancrunch to it too!!! It’s awesome! I would love to try it with banana!

Charli! I added mashed banana to my cereal, peanut butter, protein and yogurt mix and I almost died from tastiness! I like how you think 🙂

Will it still freeze with the ice cream like consistency if we don’t have the xantham gum handy? Is there a susbtitude?

  • Charli

It works fine without the xanthan gum- I don’t always put it in. Just add slightly less water, so that the consistancy is still relatively thick 🙂

I live in West Africa, I dont have access to the chocolate protein powder, I was wondering if I use the banana, regular cocoa powder, cinanmon and water if it would still work?

  • Charli

Yes, that would still form a reasonable ice cream consistancy! Do you have cottage cheese or cream cheese? You could use that instead of water and protein powder, to get the high protien content and a thicker texture 🙂

Hi Charli. I’m Filipino and your recipe is great and it’s simple to prepare but i have one question. Is it okay not to use Xanthan gum? Because, I can’t find it here locally in any of our local grocery stores. Thank you!

This recipe is awesome! I didn’t have any xanthan gum and I had to leave it in the freezer for a little more than an hour, but it came out great. It was such a treat and kept me full for the rest of the night! It tastes a lot like frozen pudding and bananas….Mmmmmmmm 🙂 What a great way to get in your protein!

wow this is delicious! I didn’t have xanthan gum so i left that out and the consistency was still perfect, just like ice cream!! I left out the cinnamon too and added strong black coffee as the liquid, i find this really enhanced the choc flavor 🙂
